Model predictive control for slurry pipeline transportation of a cutter suction dredger

Cutter Suction Dredgers (CSDs) are a special type of ships designed for construction and maintenance projects ocean offshore engineering. During the dredging operation, CSDs can excavate nearly all kinds soil on sea bed, then dredged materials with coarse particles need to be sucked up by slurry pump transported disposal area through long-distance pipeline. In order avoid sedimentation in pipeline transportation, flow rate must maintained within reasonable range. Otherwise, blocked when density is too high. this paper, we present Model Predictive Control (MPC) approach manipulate transportation CSD. To demonstrate advantages our proposed approach, also implement three Proportional–Integral–Derivative (PID) controllers (i.e., conventional PID, Fuzzy-PID, LQR-PID) make direct comparison. Moreover, evaluate effectiveness real scenarios, have, particular, built platform. Both simulation experimental results show that MPC more effective than other PID controlling problem.
